Taihu Lake, a freshwater lake in eastern China, covers an area of 2,250 square kilometers
and is the third largest freshwater lake in China, after Duyang and Dongting.
Taihu lake has about 90 islands, ranging in size from a few square meters to several
square kilometers. Taihu Lake is famous for its unique "Taihu Stone",
which is often used to decorate traditional Chinese gardens. Taihu lake is also known for
its high-yield fishing industry. Since the late 1970s, fishing for fish and
crabs has been extremely important to people living along the lake and has
made a significant contribution to the economy of the surrounding area.
Taihu Lake region is one of China's ceramic industries. For example,
Yixing pottery factory produces the world-famous Yixing Clay teapots.
