The Middle West
grain field extend for miles in either direction. In the northern part of this region, in
the state of South Dakota, is the unusual artistic project at Mr. Rushmore, where
enormous portraits of four famous US Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt, are sculpted on the face of the 1730 meter high
mountain.
To the south of this National Monument, flowing down to the Gulf of Mexico, is the mighty
Mississippi River, whose shores are dotted with such famous American cities as the twin
cities Minneapolis and St. Paul, St. Louis, Memphis, and finally in Louisiana, Baton Rough
and New Orleans are vestiges of the old Southern plantations, where some old mansions
can still be seen and even visited.
