A public library is organized for people to consult the information they need.
As far as I am concerned, in addition to providing materials, the ideal public library
should also provide the following services.
Firstly, as the basic function of an ideal library, it should provide quiet areas for
reading and studying. The quiet atmosphere enables the readers to read and think
deeply about the materials they are reading. Secondly, the library may provide public
facilities for people to get access to the electronic resources or the Internet.
Audio-books of wide range should be available for the readers as well, including
fictions, foreign language materials, etc. Thirdly, the library may also offer
casual dining,such as coffee and quick meal. Last but not least, services beyond
the walls may be extended. By providing online services and analyzing large amount
of information, the library provides readers more efficient and sufficient materials
they are looking for.To sum up, in my opinion, the characteristics mentioned above
are the fundamental requirements an ideal public library should meet.
