The rapid advancement of human civilization in the 21st century has caused complication in
deciding one's future path. Young people are puzzled at the emergence of new walks of lif
e and various interdisciplinary posts. Under this circumstance, parents usually play a cru
cial role in determining their children's future. From my perspective, however, such endea
vor is unnecessary and children should be allowed to make choices of their own.First and f
oremost, one person can only discover his optimal career by himself. Devote themselves to
caring for us as they may, parents can never peer into our mind and think in exactly the s
ame way as we do. Therefore, a man himself is the only person that understands where his t
alents lie and what his heart desires the most, which are essential for locating a career
which not only brings him joy, but takes his ability to full play as well. On the other ha
nd, parents consciously or unconsciously take their own preference into account when deter
mining their children's future, with the possibility of causing failure and misery for the
ir children. Hence, children should be allowed to find their own future. According to a re
search carried out among 1000 respondents with 500 making the independent decision when ch
oosing a career while the other 500 following the advice of their parents, over 60% people
in the first group enjoy a satisfying life consistent with their expectation, but only ne
arly 30% of members of the second group have such feeling. Therefore, parents’ recommendat
ions may not as wise as they seem to be. In addition, another argument can be raised to il
lustrate why the choices made by children are superior--they see the direction to which th
e world is headed more clearly. Parents, though experienced as they have been working for
decades, most likely have trouble keeping themselves abreast with the latest development i
n the society. Nowadays typical parents recommend their children to major in computer scie
nce and economics without the basic knowledge of these subjects. Among them are my parents
, who are always attempting to fill my mind with the idea that if I major in Physics, a li
fe of poverty will lie ahead. Nonetheless, the truth is that a plenty of professors and re
searchers are enjoying a life of high quality on their conquest to knowledge, for the gove
rnment is paying an increasing amount of attention and funding to the area. As you can see
, parents usually hold ideas that are out of date, resulting in errors in assessing the fu
ture of a career.In conclusion, parents are spending too much time to help their children
determining their future, who are perfectly capable of exploring the unknown and discovery
a life of their own, a life filled with joy and sense of accomplishment.
