The six pie charts give information about water consumption
for three different purposes in six areas over the world.
To sum up, it can be immediately observed that there are
noticeable differences in the patterns of water consumption
between developed and developing regions.
Obviously, water is consumed mainly for industrial use in the
developed areas including Europe and North America,
especially in Europe where the percentage of water
consumed for industry is the largest among all six areas, at
53%. In contrast, the water consumption for domestic use is
minimal in these two areas.
In the underdeveloped continents, the majority of water, on
the other hand, is used for agriculture, with Central Asia
standing out as consuming the highest percentage of water
for this purpose, at a huge 88 per cent. The figures in South
America, Africa and Southeast Asia also cluster between 71%
and 81%. However, industry is the least water-consuming,
except in Southeast Asia.
