Uncharted
who has a huge fan base in China for his incarnation of Spider-Man,
has been widely considered as one of the most popular action blockbusters in March.
As the first movie adapted from PlayStation's popular video game series
of the same name, the film follows a street-smart thief alongside a
seasoned treasure hunter to recover a fortune lost by Portuguese
explorer aFerdinand Magellan around five centuries ago.
Holland bacame interested in playing the game series when
he was shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, which
made him excited when he was invited to be cast in Uncharted,
according to a premiere held in Beijing earlier this month.
During a promotional video tailored for the Chinese market,
Holland jokingly said he should tell this mother that spending
all his spare time on video games was not "in vain".
Holland also revealed that he has paid tribute to the action
giant Chan in the new movie with some stunts inspired
from Chan's trademark kung fu comedies, as Chan is an
iconic star with around 200 action movies under his belt.
"One of our big inspirations for one of the fight scenes in
this film, which is the bar fight, was Jackie Chan using
his surroundings to fight people in very unique and
different ways," Holland said in another promotional video.
In another scene, Holland performed a stunt jump from
a high ceiling to the ground at an auction house,
reminding the fans of Chan.
Interestingly, Chan responded and said he appreciates
Holland's tribute and wishes he could work with
Holland in the future.
"I heard the young man paid tribute to my films in a lot
of action scenes and has done stunts by himself.
You are amazing. But be careful when you do stunts.
I'm thrilled that Chinese kung fu movies have fans
all around the world. Thank you for your support,
and I hope I can work with Holland in the future,"
said Chan in a video statement.
